PARRC Communities Win Grants for Parks

The Pottstown Area Regional Planning Commission (PARRC) communities received several grants in the first half of 2025 to benefit local park projects. Details of the projects and grant funding are outlined below.


East Coventry Township was awarded $300,000 from the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission and $20,000 from a private donor for the development of a new boat ramp, kayak launch, access drive and parking area at Towpath Park. The Township also received $10,000 from the Schuylkill Highlands Minigrant Program for a new entrance sign at Towpath Park. North Coventry Township was awarded $10,000 from a private donor for the redevelopment of the playground at Kenilworth Park.


The Montgomery County Planning Commission awarded the Borough of Pottstown $135,000 in grant funding for the Brookside Park Redevelopment Project, which will provide new play equipment, a paved pathway, an ADA accessible Bankshot basketball system, landscaping, and site amenities. The Borough also received $15,000 from a private donor for redevelopment of South Street Park and to continue the Public Arts Project.


Lower Pottsgrove Township received $15,000 from a private donor to be used for engineering of

a new inclusive playground at Sanatoga Park. Upper Pottsgrove Township received funding in the amount of $301,500 for the development of pedestrian improvements on Gilbertsville Road at the Althouse Arboretum and Cherrytree Lane, and $10,000 from a private donor for the preparation of a Trail Connections Study. West Pottsgrove Township received $10,000 from a private funder to install birdhouses and design and install six new interpretive signs at Murgia Park. Douglass Township received $10,000 from a private donor to resurface Park Road in Douglass Park.


Washington Township received $19,210 from Berks County for the preparation of a master plan for Barto Community Park. The Township also received a $4,234 from the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation to develop a trail connection from Barto Community Park to an adjacent residential neighborhood.
