A brand-new soccer mini pitch has officially been completed at Pollock Park, located at 839 Cross Street, bringing new recreation space to the neighborhood. The installation adds a small-sided soccer facility, giving local youth a safe and accessible place to stay active.
The project was made possible through a public-private partnership between the Borough of Pottstown and several organizations committed to expanding youth access to sports. Key partners included the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the sports-focused nonprofit Lionsraw, and UNICEF. Together, these groups created the 26x26 initiative, which used the 2026 FIFA World Cup "as an opportunity to engage over 100,000 youth in disinvested neighborhoods across the U.S and transform communities through sport. Using a collective community impact model, 26x26 will build sports infrastructure and the capacity of organizations to help youth ages 9-16 in high-need areas develop critical skills and build community in the process."
In addition to these project partners, the Borough also received $10,000 in grant funding from the Pottstown Regional Community Foundation to help support construction of the mini pitch. The new field was built in a portion of the park that once contained tennis courts, reflecting continued improvements and reinvestment in the area. This project also connects to broader park revitalization efforts nearby, including the opening of Cross Street Park in 2025. That park features regulation-size basketball courts and off-street parking, further expanding recreational opportunities in this section of the Borough.
The Borough extends its thanks to all partners who helped make this project a reality for the children of Pottstown. Be on the lookout for the official ribbon-cutting date for the mini pitch at Pollock Park.
