Private Funding Supports Pottstown Public Arts Project

If you've recently walked or driven by the corner of High and Hanover Streets in downtown Pottstown, you may have noticed that something looks different. A colorful mural, created by local artist Carrie Kingsbury, was painted on the signal box in front of the Blue Elephant restaurant. In 2022, the Borough of Pottstown was awarded private funding in support of a community arts project. The funding will support the development of murals on signal boxes located at several intersections around town, as well as other public art projects. The Borough worked with staff of ArtFusion 19464, the Pottstown Area Regional Recreation Committee and a local volunteer to oversee the project, and the artists' concept designs received Borough approval. The purpose of the community arts project is to create more public art in downtown Pottstown for residents and visitors to enjoy and to build on the revitalization taking place in the Borough. The first completed mural in the series includes historical and cultural scenes from around Pottstown with themes of industry, transportation, and people. Where will the next mural be? Visit Pottstown this spring to find out.
