Pottstown's Signal Box Mural Project Continues

As you may have seen, this has been a busy week for Pottstown's local artists. Three new signal box murals have been completed around town as part of the Pottstown Public Arts Project, a partnership of the Pottstown Area Regional Recreation Committee (PARRC), ArtFusion19464 and the Borough. The murals are located on Hanover Street by the former The Mercury building, by the Pottstown Post Office at the intersection of Madison and High Streets, and at the corner of Wilson and Hanover Street.

The Fourth of July themed signal box mural outside of the Post Office, sponsored by Pottstown’s GoFourth Committee and completed by Alicia Wilby. Alicia has completed several signal boxes murals as part of the Pottstown Public Arts Project. The artwork features an energetic combination of red, blue, and yellow colors. The main design consists of multiple stars, some of which are white with blue outlines, while others are solid blue with white accents. The stars create a dynamic, fireworks-like effect. On the front side of the box a rocket motif shoots upward, emphasizing a theme of celebration. The artwork wraps around the sides, creating a unified, bold, and lively design. The overall feel of the piece is celebratory and energetic, perfect to represent Pottstown and its Fourth of July festivities.

The second featured Signal Box is on Hanover Street outside of the former Mercury building and was created by Alison Forde. This design is focused on birds and nature. The box is divided into different color sections, with a soft gradient of pastel shades ranging from pink to blue and yellow. On one side, a blue and white bird perches on a tree branch. The background behind the bird is a rich pink, giving the image warmth. This section includes swirling stars and clouds, creating a dreamy, celestial atmosphere. On the front side features a red bird stand in the middle of a yellow sky, surrounded by soft pink clouds. Beneath the bird, a smaller bird rests near the ground, blending with a greenish-blue background.

The third signal box mural is on the corner of Hanover Street and Wilson Street and was completed by Ashley Kolpak. This mural has a simple yet striking sunflower theme. The box has a bold blue background that makes the large, vibrant yellow petals of the sunflower stand out. The top of the box is painted bright yellow, matching the sunflower theme, and adding to the vibrant, cheerful feel of the artwork. The bright colors make the signal box stand out as an eye-catching piece of public art.

The artists' signal box murals have brought color and joy to Pottstown's downtown, transforming the ordinary into vibrant street art. The Borough anticipates one additional signal box mural to be completed this year, and several more in 2025.
