DCNR Funds Pottstown Area Park Projects

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources recently announced the award of over $90 million in grant funds across the state--including funding for three communities of the Pottstown Area Regional Recreation Committee (PARRC).

Tow Path Park, East Coventry Township

East Coventry Township received a $166,600 grant to redevelop Tow Path Park, located on Route 724/New Schuylkill Road. Additional funding in the amount of $203,000 was awarded from Chester County earlier this year that will match DCNR's funds. Improvements will include a new parking area and trailhead, and loop trail.

The Borough of Pottstown received $82,500 from DCNR to redevelop two parks, Chestnut Street Park and South Street Park, including new playground equipment, storm water management facilities, improved access and site amenities.

Upper Pottsgrove Township received a grant of $72,400 from DCNR for the acquisition of open space adjacent to the Althouse Arboretum on Gilbertsville Road.

This new DCNR funding will help these PARRC municipalities to continue to improve and expand recreation opportunities in the Pottstown region.
